Went for my first run after completing the marathon about a week ago. After reading several articles about recovering, the general consensus is that you are indeed supposed to rest. I am using a guide suggested by Competitor. I am not an elite runner or even a fast runner for that matter. So I am playing it safe by taking the opportunity to rest. Competitor suggests at least a week of rest, with maybe a few short, easy jogs or cross training thrown in. Then, a couple of weeks of easing back in to it. This is very hard, as my legs feel surprisingly good after the marathon. I think the training for the marathon was harder than the marathon itself. I feel just as accomplished making it through the training as I do making it through the marathon! Especially while working full time as a nurse.
This is a view from the trail. It was just a short 2.2 mile run by Pismo Beach. My legs felt great though and it felt good to be running. Granted it has only been 5 days, but that can feel like 5 weeks to a runner!
